Hand Hewn Love {aka: Teachers with Power Tools}

What did you do this summer?
{1} I did escape for a week to my favorite beach, but my summer wasn't all sand and surf. It started with a big crack in my kitchen ceiling, which was failing sheetrock holding up crumbling lathe and plaster and ancient insulation, not to mention more than a century of attic dirt. Hmmm...to fix or demo?  Demo it was!
{2} Although I loved the look of the original rough sawn timbers, they all had to be covered with insulation. So, I saw this photo of these exposed collar ties ... ooooooo!
I already had school house lamps (don't all teachers?) in the dining area, and my contractor, Juan Franco Construction, was game, so off I went to a fabulous reclaimed lumber retailer...

{3} ...and found these 2 bad boys.
{4} Here are the results of my talented contractor's magic.
Sa-Wooooooon!

Now go link up with Kasey and her fabulous Five for Friday!

  3. Love that kitchen! Are the cabinets, countertops and everything new or just the ceiling?

    1. Thank you! The cabinets are super old. Countertops, frig and sink are new. I knew there would be a big mess, so I figured it would be a good time to change a few of my decades old (and style-lacking) features.

  6. Most of the people prefer stationary power tools over portable tools as they are faster and more accurate. For example, a job done by a table saw is smoother, cleaner and straighter, when compared to the same task done by a hand saw.

  7. What is even interesting to note is the fact that there are a number of DIY projects where you can use hand tool as well as power tools simultaneously.skil 3320-01 3.2 amp 10-inch drill press

  9. Strong lighting too is vital to any power tool operation as the lighting is what keeps your fingers away from the blade and shows you exactly where blades are at all times. Get as many watts as possible on your next job and you'll keep yourself out of the emergency room.cordless screwdriver

  15. Power hardware ought not be conveyed by their rope or hose. Try not to yank the line or hose to separate it from a repository. In the event that the tool has a three-prong plug, it ought to be connected to a three-hold electrical container.tire inflator
